Micron Boosts Taiwan Chip Conveyance with 1.8 billion transaction in the face of worldwide recollection lack.
Micron Technology is hastening its move to increase world-wide production of memory-chips, and has already finished acquiring a semiconductor plant in Taiwan costing $1.8 billion with a project to build another plant at the same location. The relocation demonstrates the increased pressure that manufacturers of chips face to satisfy skyrocketing demand around the world.
Micron increases the production capacity.
This new plant acquired by the powerchip semiconductor manufacturing Corp. provides 300,000 square feet of clean room manufacturing area which is a sensitive area of operations where advanced semiconductors are manufactured.
According to industry analysts at TrendForce, the new plant will add to the global manufacturing capacity of Micron by over 10 percent beginning in the second half of 2027.
Micron is even intending to build a second facility on the same premises placing an additional 270,000 square feet of cleanroom space. It is anticipated that construction will commence prior to the company fiscal year which is August.
Together, the growth would increase the overall capacity of Micron by close to 20 percent in the world.
There is still high demand, which exceeds supply.
The growth will fail to directly immediately to alleviate the worldwide scarcity of memory-chips although the investment is massive.

Micron has already issued warnings that it would probably only satisfy half to two-thirds of the customer demands in the medium run, as the number of artificial intelligence, smartphones, and data centers demand keeps increasing.
This supply demand imbalance has caused a sharp increase in the memory prices.
Smartphone and Apple makers in price shock.
Citigroup analysts caution that the DRAM price might climb significantly in 2026 and cause significant cost pressures among smartphone makers.
In the second quarter of 2026, Apple could see a fifty percent rise in the price of DRAM, and the price can also go up twofold in the second half of the year.
Qualcomm and Arm Holdings are also firms related to the smartphone demand that have been burdened by the price spurt.
Chip manufacturers get an advantage of supply strangle.
Whereas electronics firms are facing the problem of increased costs, memory makers are riding on a good market.
The stock of Micron has increased by over four times in the last one year as investors are hoping that high earnings will be achieved due to the high prices of memory.
The major competitors of Micron are also enjoying the boom and they include:
- SK Hynix
- Samsung Electronics
The three firms control the world market in DRAM.
U.S. expansion of Micron is worth 200 billion.
The Taiwan investment is even bigger than the Micron massive 200 billion expansion to manufacture semiconductors in the US.
The strategy includes:
Idaho
- Two state of art chip manufacture factories.
- Both having approximately 600,000 square feet of clean room.
- It is anticipated to commence operations by the year 2028.
New York
- Onondaga County $100 billion semiconductor complex.
- Four clothing manufacturing plants scheduled.
- The expected start of production should be around 2030.
Such projects are to enhance the American semiconductor supply chain and decrease the reliance on foreign production.
Chip industry prognosis in the long run.
The memory-chip business has been cyclically marked with shortages and oversupply. Although the current market is tight and is increasing profits, the huge investments by companies such as Micron may ultimately stabilize the market.
In the short term, though, AI computing, smartphones and data center demand of memory chips still surpassss supply, which will guarantee chipmakers good incomes in the coming years.
